Amadora Comic Contest

The theme of the 2026 Amadora Comic Contest is: “Fighting bullying, promoting inclusion.”

The goal is to challenge all participants to reflect on the emotional and social effects of bullying and to suggest ways to build a safer, more inclusive, and more welcoming society for everyone.

It aims to reward young Portuguese comic book authors by encouraging artistic creation and raising awareness of the importance of literature.

The contribution of new generations to comic book creation, and the recognition of the work developed by these emerging authors, drives an increase in literary production, fosters diversity in languages and aesthetic approaches, and promotes greater dynamism in the market.

All authors between the ages of 12 and 30 may enter, divided into two categories: Category A – ages 17 to 30, and Category B – ages 12 to 16.

Authors aged 12 to 30, divided into two categories: Category A – ages 17 to 30
Category B – ages 12 to 16
Prizes ranging from €500 to €1000

Amadora Municipal Comic Contest

Theme: "How can we fight bullying?"

The theme of the 2026 Amadora Municipal Comic Contest is: “How can we fight bullying?”

It is aimed at all students in the 1st and 2nd cycles of basic education, from public and private schools in the municipality.

The goal is to challenge participants to create a comic that promotes respect for differences and highlights the importance of friendship and mutual support among classmates in tackling bullying.

The participation of students and teachers from schools across the municipality reflects a collective commitment to fostering creativity and promoting the visual arts as a pedagogical tool and strategic driver of cognitive development. Through this literary genre, students’ creativity and imagination are encouraged in areas such as scriptwriting, drawing, painting, and the visual arts, all of which are integral parts of comic book creation.

Who can participate?

Open to students in the 1st and 2nd cycles of basic education from schools in the Amadora municipality.

Amadora Comic Awards (PBDA)

Organised by the Amadora City Council as part of the 37th edition of Amadora BD, the Amadora Comic Awards (PBDA) annually recognise excellence in Portuguese and international comics published in Portugal.

The initiative celebrates comics as an artistic, literary and cultural medium, while supporting authors, publishers and creative excellence.

This year’s awards include the following categories: Best Comic Book by a Portuguese Author, Best Foreign Comic Book Published in Portugal, Best Fanzine/Independent Publication, Best Portuguese Comic Book Edition, and Best New Talent Award.

Applications are open until 30 August. The awards include cash prizes of €10,000 for Best Comic Book by a Portuguese Author and €3,000 for the Best New Talent Award. The award ceremony will take place on 18 October, as part of the programme of the 37th edition of Amadora BD.
